Port operator Asian Terminals is expanding its capacity at the Manila South Harbour to over one million 20-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to meet increasing container volumes at the Port of Manila.
Asian Terminals Incorporated (ATI) stated that the terminal enhancement programme will expand current facilities, maximising its yards and converting available spaces within the South Harbor expanded port zone to additional container stacking and truck-marshaling areas. ATI will complete the crane rail extension at Pier 3 by the end of 2012 as a lead up to the deployment of additional quayside cranes that will further increase berth capacity at South Harbour.
The port is also taking delivery of two rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) in early 2013, in addition to other container handling equipment aimed at further boosting the yard's productivity levels.
