The Polish Alternative Fuel Association recently released a report showing that Poland has the world's second-largest lithium battery production capacity, surpassing the United States and second only to China. Alexander Reich, the chief expert of the association, stated in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that he is more willing to see China as a partner in this field rather than a competitor.

The report "European Electric Vehicles Using Polish Lithium Batteries" released by the Polish Alternative Fuel Association states that in 2022, the production capacity of Polish lithium battery packs will increase to 73 GWh, accounting for approximately 6% of the global total production capacity. The Polish Alternative Fuel Association is the largest electric transportation industry organization in Central and Eastern Europe.

Reich said that investment attractiveness is a key factor for Poland to become a strong lithium battery power in Europe. Poland produces both buses and bus components, charging components, software solutions, and now lithium batteries. This is a very good value chain and a complete industrial chain

Wang Guanlin, the Marketing Director of True Lithium Research, who is committed to researching the global and Chinese lithium battery industry chain, stated that Poland's leading position in the lithium battery industry is attributed to the support of national policies, the speed of economic development, and the advantages of labor costs and industrial foundation.

Firstly, the Polish government has provided preferential policies such as low tax rates and subsidies for enterprises. These measures have attracted more and more international lithium battery manufacturers to invest in Poland. Secondly, compared to Western European countries, Poland's labor costs are lower, thus improving market competitiveness. Thirdly, the development of the lithium battery industry is closely related to the basic industry. Poland is a highly industrialized country, which provides a solid foundation for the lithium battery industry Support He said.

When it comes to cooperation with China, Laih said that the huge internal market, technological progress, and resource advantages have ensured China's success in the field of automotive batteries. I think companies on the value chain of electric vehicles in Europe and Poland are seeking partners in various fields. Whenever there is a possibility of cooperation in zero emission transportation technology, they will sit down and discuss it

China has huge resources of lithium and other key raw materials. In addition, China has a huge market and potential. China's lithium batteries are entering the European market and bringing technological innovation, "he said.

The challenge we face is not only in production, but also in innovation and invention, which not only depends on research and development investment, but also on various other factors - developing robust and effective recycling policies comes first

When referring to the updated EU battery regulations last year, Reich said, "In Europe, at least 6% of lithium and nickel in every battery in use needs to be recycled

One out of every two electric buses exported by the European Union is manufactured in Poland. In Europe, one out of every five trucks is a Polish truck. 30% of all goods transported by EU roads are operated by Polish operators. The association is collaborating with all participants in the market to promote decarbonization in transportation. This is our future direction, "he said.
