The handover ceremony of the outpatient building project of the Sri Lankan National Hospital assisted by China was held in Colombo on the 25th.

Sri Lanka's Minister of Health Rambukovira and Chinese Ambassador to Sri Lanka Qi Zhenhong respectively signed the handover certificate on behalf of the two governments. Sri Lanka's Ministry of Health officials and medical personnel from the national hospital attended the handover ceremony.

On behalf of the Sri Lankan government, Rambukvira expressed gratitude to the Chinese side for its long-term assistance to Sri Lanka. He praised the construction of the National Hospital Outpatient Building, which is a very important and truly needed project in the country's health sector. He believed that Sri Lankan medical workers will make full use of this facility to serve the local people.

Qi Zhenhong said that in recent years, the Chinese government has placed health at an important position in bilateral development relations. In addition to providing vaccines and medical supplies to Sri Lanka during the COVID-19, the national nephrosis hospital and the nephrology examination vehicle for Sri Lanka have been put into use. China has also provided emergency humanitarian drug assistance to Sri Lanka, and hopes that China's help can effectively benefit front-line medical personnel and patients in Sri Lanka.

The outpatient building project of Sri Lanka National Hospital, which was assisted by China, began construction in August 2017, with a construction area of approximately 50000 square meters. After being put into use, the maximum daily number of patients in the hospital will increase to 6000, which will help alleviate the shortage of local medical resources.
