Vu Shipinh, secretary-general of the Internet Society of Vietnam, said that Vietnam needs at least two to three more submarine cables in the next five years to meet the growing demand for the Internet.

At present, four submarine cable lines developed by Vietnamese operators, including AAG, APG, AAE-1 and IA, have problems at the same time, seriously affecting Internet connections in Vietnam. This is the first time such events have happened at the same time, and during the Lunar New Year holiday. Major domestic service providers are actively cooperating with submarine cable system and ship operators to determine the cause of the problem, the location of the accident and the repair plan in the shortest possible time.

As submarine cable failures become more common, the need to add new cables is imminent. Viette and VNPT have announced their plans to develop more cable lines to Quy Nhon this year.
