An overhead crane lifts a pallet of cement at a constant speed. The overhead crane exerts an upwards force of 1600N on the pallet. What is the force exerted by the Pallet on an overhead crane?

Newton's third law states that when two bodies interact, they apply forces to one another that are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction. The third law is also known as the law of action and reaction.

If the crane exerts an upwards force of 1600 N on the pallet then the pallet exerts an downwards force of 1600 N on the crane.

Below are three Newton’s Laws of Motion:

An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion remains in motion at constant speed and in a straight line unless acted on by an unbalanced force.

The acceleration of an object depends on the mass of the object and the amount of force applied: a = F/m

Whenever one object exerts a force on another object, the second object exerts an equal and opposite on the first.
