Liebherr Container Cranes has signed a contract to supply DP World Berbera with eight Grúas pórtico con neumáticos de caucho, for DP World’s terminal in Berbera, Somaliland.
The cranes, which are due to be ready for operation before the end of 2020, are variable-speed diesel RTGs, each six containers plus a lane wide, and will stack one over five containers high. The variable-speed diesel engine helps to reduce running costs and significantly reduces emissions, says Liebherr.
The machines are supplied with DGPS auto-steering and stack profiling. Like all Liebherr RTGs, the machines incorporate the manufacturer’s eight rope reeving no-sway system, Liebherr drive systems, and simultaneous drive motion, all of which are designed to enhance efficiency. Meanwhile, gantry cameras and a laser anti-collision system improve safety.
The cranes have been designed using high-quality European components specified for maximum loading conditions, says Liebherr, prolonging component life. Remote maintenance and the manufacturer’s custom diagnostics and maintenance software, DiaMon3D, help to reduce maintenance costs.
The port at Berbera already operates three Liebherr LHM 420 mobile harbour cranes, which went into service in early 2019. The new cranes are part of a phased expansion of the port, with phase one including a new 400m quay and a 250,000sq m yard extension.
