The Philippine tax director Romeo said that with the development of e-commerce, the tax department will give priority to how to better tax online sellers and other new platforms this year. The COVID-19 has forced many physical enterprises to use e-commerce platforms such as Shopee and Lazada and social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok for online sales. According to the estimate of the Philippine Ministry of Trade and Industry, by the end of 2022, about 2 million physical enterprises have launched online sales business. In 2021, the contribution rate of Philippine digital economy to GDP will be 9.6%, about 1.8 trillion pesos (about 32.4 billion US dollars). According to the Philippine Taxation Bureau, by the end of 2021, online content creators and retailers had contributed about 44.6 billion pesos (about 800 million US dollars) in tax.
