Kenyan port plans on acquiring STS cranes

The final construction works for Kilindini berth Number 19 in Kenya are currently underway, local press announced recently. Plans are also in progress to acquire three more ship to shore (STS) gantry cranes to serve at the new berth.

Engineers from China Roads and Bridges Construction, the main contractors, have given a nod for trial runs by STS container handling cranes.

The 240m long berth is already expected to boost container handling operations at the port to considerable levels following the handing over to the Kenya Ports Authority last month.

Development of the new berth commenced in July 2011 and has so far seen the total quay length of the Mombasa Container Terminal grow to 840 meters.
