Supplied under contract for Indian construction engineering firm Larsen and Toubro (L&T) Forgings, the cranes were installed at the firm’s steel and heavy forging plant in Hazira, Gujarat, where they will help in the manufacture of heavy-duty turbine shafts for nuclear power plant turbine generators.
Anupam’s Industries’ manufacturing process had to conform to exacting standards for critical nuclear manufacturing applications involving continuous forging, with maximum safe working load tests and overload testing at 125% of the crane’s capacity being carried out.
Anupam Industries’ managing director, Mehul Patel, says that the job has helped to demonstrate the company’s capabilities in providing services for the steel industry.
“We believe in customer delight and innovation, and we are standing strong today with this achievement due to our vast experience, technical expertise, support of MHI and whole hearted contribution of our employees,” said Patel.
Each 350t crane has a 33m span and features a 50t auxiliary hoist that shares the main hoist’s 25m maximum lift height. The overhead cranes were manufactured in compliance with the manufacturing quality standards adhered to by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Pieces such as the crane girders and trolleys were fabricated as a single piece to eradicate any metal splicing, with other components including mechanical sub-assemblies and electrical drives and programmable logic controllers.
The overhead cranes required a 250t capacity mobile crane to install their 95–100t girders at the plant, with full installation of all components taking 10 days to complete.
Patel added: “We have already created a strong presence on the steel mill segment by supplying high-end ladle cranes and steel mill duty cranes to various industry leaders. With this achievement we have reinforced ourselves as the specialist crane solution provider to the steel industry.”
