The wheel tread of a crane refers to the contact part between the wheel and the rail, referred to as the tread. The protruding part of the tread surface in contact with the inner side of the rail is called the wheel flange, and the function of the wheel flange is to prevent the wheel from derailing. There are three types of crane wheel tread damage, namely: tread scratches, tread peeling, and tread wear.

1.  Crane wheel tread scratches: The form of tread scratches is related to axle load, vehicle speed, braking force, and wet and dry conditions of the rail surface.
2.  Crane wheel tread peeling: the running wheel slides on the rail to form a scratch on the tread. The strong friction between the tread and the rail generates high temperature. After cooling, the surface metal of the scratch is hard and brittle, which may cause small pieces of metal on the tread to fall off or become flaky warping. , The formation of tread peeling.
3.  Crane wheel tread wear: it will worsen the wheel-rail contact state, increase the impact and vibration between the wheel and rail, easily damage the track, and shorten the service life of the track facilities; increase the vertical vibration of the car body, which will easily cause the locomotive and vehicle accessories to loosen, break, and Wear. And cracks are generated, causing accidents; the impact force on the bearing is sharply large, shortening the life of the bearing, and easily causing hot shafts; under strong impact and vibration, it is easy to damage the transported goods; the wear of the wheel tread destroys the taper of the tread and reduces the equipment The smooth running of the wheel increases the wheel-rail contact area and increases the running resistance; excessive wheel tread wear causes too small outer wheel flange distance, severe lateral vibration of the wheel, and derailment accidents .
