Libyan generator orders power plant crane

Algec, formerly Alstom GEC, have ordered a Konecranes SMT Smarton crane for one of Libya's largest power plants, the Western Mountain Power Plant Libya. The contract is worth EUR 450,000 (USD 597) and will be delivered in April 2013.

The 60t/12.5t/7.5t SMT double girder crane will operate on 10.7mt span. It will have an SMT double girder trolley with a CXT Aux hoist and a further CXT monorail trolley that can reach outside the crane operating envelop. Control will be be from a cabin and remote radio with a stepless joystick speed control.

Employing new Smarton technology, the crane has an intelligent user-friendly Human Interface to Machine (HIM) system that keeps the operator up to date in realtime with key data, including the weight of the load and its position relative to the available workspace.

New technologies also mean the crane monitors its own conditions, giving an alert when inspection or maintenance should be performed. The hoists feature Konecranes' ControlPro monitoring technology which provides overload detection and brake wear monitoring. The unit also stores and records the number of cycles, overload attempts and temperature trips.
