The Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China is working hard to build a Sino-Вьетнам multi-link road grid, build an international corridor for ASEAN, and comprehensively improve the accessibility and service capacity of transportation infrastructure.

More and more international road passenger and freight transport routes

China News Network quoted the Department of Transportation of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as saying that the Aidian Port (China) - Zhima Port (Vietnam), a pair of international road transport vehicle access ports and 10 international road passenger and cargo transport routes were newly added between Guangxi and Vietnam.

Recently, the transportation departments of China and Vietnam signed the Agreement on the Newly-added Sino-Vietnam International Road Passenger and Freight Transport Routes and International Road Transport Vehicle Passage Ports, which has come into effect. So far, the number of international road transport routes jointly confirmed by China and Vietnam in Guangxi has increased from 20 in 2011 to 30.

Guangxi is connected with Vietnam by mountains and rivers, and has a long border line. Youyi Pass, Dongxing and other ports under its jurisdiction are convenient channels for China to ASEAN countries. Over the years, Guangxi has been working with Vietnam to explore new models of development and opening up along the border with its unique geographical advantages, and the economic and trade cooperation between the two sides has become increasingly close.

At present, the international road transport routes jointly confirmed by China and Vietnam in Guangxi include 17 passenger lines (11 have been opened), 13 freight lines (6 have been opened), a total of 30 lines; The number of international road transport vehicle ports increased to 5 pairs.

According to the agreement, five of the 10 new international road passenger and freight transport routes start from Nanning, Chongzuo and Fangchenggang in Guangxi; The five routes leave through Guangxi, starting from Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Kunming and Chongqing.

Strive to realize the interconnection of roads and railways

At the press conference held by the Information Office of the People's Government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the head of the Department of Transport of the Autonomous Region said that in 2023, Guangxi would accelerate the construction of major projects such as Chongzuo-Pingxiang Railway.

According to the website of Guangxi Radio and Television Station, at present, there is only one railway (Hunan-Guangxi Railway) facing ASEAN connectivity in Guangxi. In order to accelerate the construction of a railway hub facing ASEAN, three channels are planned: north, central and south.

The north channel is Nanning - Jingxi - Longbang - Taiyuan (Vietnam) - Hanoi (Vietnam) channel; The middle channel is Nanning - Pingxiang - Tongdeng (Vietnam) - Hanoi (Vietnam) channel; The south channel is Nanning - Qinzhou - Fangchenggang - Dongxing - Haiphong (Vietnam) - Hanoi (Vietnam) channel.

Among the three planned channels, there are two railways under construction, namely, Nanning-Pingxiang High-speed Railway and Fangchenggang-Dongxing Railway. Nanning-Pingxiang High-speed Railway is an important international transportation channel between China and ASEAN, connecting Nanning, the capital of Guangxi, and Pingxiang, the border port city of China and Vietnam. The total operating mileage is 201 kilometers, and the investment is about 3.3 billion yuan. It is expected that the project will be completed and open to traffic in 2025.

Fangchenggang Dongxing Railway is located at the southernmost end of the coastal high-speed railway in Chinese Mainland, and is also an important part of the China Vietnam interconnection international channel and the new land sea channel in the west. The main line is 47.6km long, with a design speed of 200km/h, and an investment of 1.8 billion yuan. The project is expected to be completed within this year.

In terms of expressway construction, according to the Guangxi Expressway Network Plan (2018-2030), a total of 13 expressways are planned to lead to the border ports connecting with Vietnam.

Up to now, five expressways have been built, including the Nanning-Pingxiang Youyiguan Expressway to Langshan Province, Vietnam in 2005, the Fangcheng-Dongxing Expressway to Guangning Province, Vietnam in 2013, the Jingxi-Longbang Expressway to Gaoping Province, Vietnam in 2018, and the Chongzuo-Shuikou Expressway, the second expressway to Gaoping Province, Vietnam, in 2019, In January 2023, the second expressway to Vietnam's Langshan Province, Daxin Jinglongzhou-Pingxiang Expressway, was completed.

In 2023, Guangxi will continue to strengthen the construction of expressways facing the ASEAN international corridor. On the one hand, we will accelerate the construction of the project of transportation interconnection with Vietnam in China. On the other hand, actively promote the planning and construction of the Vietnam section of the highway connecting Vietnam and Guangxi. We will build a China-Vietnam multi-link road grid office and gradually realize interconnection.
