Everything You Should Know about Electric Chain Hoist Maintenance

Electric chain hoists have become a popular choice to lift different types of loads. You may have searched for the best chain hoist manufacturers to find quality products and have bought it. However, now you have the responsibility of maintaining the condition of this electric chain hoist to make it long-lasting. Most of the manufacturers and suppliers help users to keep up the original condition of chain hoists. By following their instructions, you can make the best use of these load-lifting systems. Let us now tell you why the chain hoist maintenance is important for you.

Prevents rusting and corrosion problems

When you are buying crane driver parts and chain hoists, manufacturers ensure that their products are corrosion-resistant. However, constant contact of harsh elements with your system can result in corrosion issues. In due course, you will find negative effects on the performance level of your hoist. Rusting can damage structural parts of your industrial system. Within a few days of your use, you may find this complication. However, with regular maintenance, you can prevent corrosion.

Lubricate your hoist and maintain functionality

The right amount of lubrication ensures smooth working of heavy machine parts. During the regular inspection, you have to lubricate your hoist. Professionals know about the right type and amount of lubricant needed for your hoist. They will help you in preventing wear and tear and other deteriorations in your system. Lots of suppliers of chain hoists ask their users to maintain proper lubrication. They make sure that every part is lubricated properly to increase the longevity. Frequency of your use is one of the major factors to make out when you have to lubricate the load chain. There are different techniques for replacing double fall and single fall chains. You must also replace the old gear oil with the new one based on the local regulations.

Always replace gear oil by referring to rated load and operation hours in the following table. However, replace gear oil at least every five years even if the hoist has not worked up to specified hours. To replace gear oil, please take off oil plug and leak cover, drain old gear oil, and then fill in new specialized gear oil. Using sub-standard or similar brand gear oil tends to cause abnormal friction clutch, and then result in load falling off the hoist.

Note: Old gear oil should be disposed of according to local law and regulations.

Test out fittings of your systems

Your детали крана have to be tightly fitted. While these parts are loose, they can cause a risk. That is why you have to check out these fittings. You need to ensure safety to your workers with proper maintenance of your industrial systems. Only professional technicians have the best knowledge of dealing with the maintenance process of electric chain hoists. Tips to upkeep your electric chain hoists-

  • Always to lubricate load chains.
  • Never touch electrified parts
  • Keep away from adjusting friction clutch
  • Warn the worker that push-button switch and power source may cause risk

Basic Do's and Dont's

  • Always keep load chain in lubrication.
  • Do not extend load chain by connecting, adding or welding extra load chain.
  • Do not touch the electrified components.
  • Do not adjust the friction clutch.
  • Attach warning sign of "danger" both on a power source and push-button switch during maintenance.
  • Do not operate the hoist when it is being repaired.
  • Always shut off the power source when the hoist is under repairing. However, this is not suitable for the check of the push-button switch and power source voltage.
  • After maintenance, always test load capacity before going on to operate the hoist.
  • During shipment of parts, ensure that the moving load won't knock your hands and other parts of the body.

Replacement of chain

Whether the load chain should be lubricated once a week or more frequently depends on how often it is used. Kindly follow the following steps to replace the chain. Refer for replacement of single fall chain and double fall chain respectively.

Single fall chain

  • Takedown stopper from the no-load side.
  • Attach C-link to end chain circle.
  • Attach new chain end to C-link.
  • Operate the hoist to lower chain.
  • Stop lowering chain when there is enough new chain on the load side.
  • Install chain spring or cushion rubber and bottom hook took down from the old chain to load side of new chain end.
  • Install chain spring or cushion rubber and stopper taken down from the old chain to no-load side of the new chain.

Double fall chain

  • Takedown stopper from the no-load side.
  • Attach C-link to end chain circle.
  • Attach new chain end to C-link.
  • Operate the hoist to lower chain.
  • Stop lowering chain when there is enough new chain on the load side.
  • Feed all load-side end of the new chain into idle sheave.
  • Ensure that chain does not twist during the whole linking process when the chain end is connected to link with the chain pin.
  • Install chain spring or cushion rubber and stopper taken down from the old chain to no-load side of new chain

Examination

First examination: Before a new or altered hoist is put into use; it should be examined by professional personnel to ensure it is up to standard.

Usual examination procedures can be divided into two types according to examination intervals, which meanwhile depend on the status of essential parts and the wear-out, deterioration and breakdown that they display. The two types here is defined as daily examination and regular examination.

Daily examination: Operators or professional personnel take a visual inspection. Check if defects and damage are referring to the recommended items, including the ones displayed during regular examinations. It should be professional personnel who decide if the defects or damage will bring danger or need detailed inspection.

Regular examination: Professional personnel take a visual inspection. Take an overall review of the hoist according to recommended items in "regular examinations" section. The review can be done in hoist working areas. There is no need to take apart the whole hoist. Open or takedown the cover plate and other parts for examination. It should be professional personnel who carry out regular examination items and decide whether it will bring danger or needs an overall investigation. Routine exam includes daily check items.

  • Standard use: check it once a year.
  • Frequent use: check it once half a year.
  • Excessive frequent use: check it once a quarter.
  • In special case or seldom use: for the first time, examine it according to the intervals recommended by technicians; do it under the technician's guide later.

Electric Chain Hoist occasionally used- Create a hoist maintenance schedule.

When you leave your hoist unused for more than a month, you must maintain their performance. Before putting them in use, you need to check out the condition of its parts. Let professionals check your electric chain hoists thoroughly.

For your standard use, you need to check the hoist at least once every year. When you are using it frequently, you can keep a gap of 6 months between every inspection. Similarly, for your seldom use of the hoist, you may speak to your technicians to maintain your electric hoists.
