Michael Schumann, President of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade (BWA), said at the economic event in Berlin recently that based on the latest economic data, the prospects of Sino-German cooperation remain hopeful. Despite the huge global challenges and uncertainties in the global economy, the Chinese and German economies have shown remarkable resilience and adaptability.

According to China News Service, Schumann said that the COVID-19 has hit us both in Đức and China. "Nevertheless, as the president of the German Federal Economic Development and Foreign Trade Association, I can say with a little pride that the bilateral economic relations between Germany and China have continued to improve in recent years, and the epidemic has not changed this trend."

Schumann said that China remained an important partner of Germany, which was confirmed by the recently released data. In 2022, China became Germany's most important trading partner for seven consecutive years. The bilateral trade volume rose to a record high of nearly 298 billion euros, an increase of about 21% over 2021.

Schumann said that many companies in Germany and China have maintained a trust relationship for many years, and their associations have been committed to the development of German-China relations for a long time, which has built many bridges for business exchanges between the two countries.

Schumann pointed out that at the same time, he did not want to hide the fact that Europe is currently in a difficult period, and the voice of political skepticism about German-China relations has increased. But "deglobalization" and "protectionism" cannot be the correct solution. In order to ensure the future development of the German-China economy, it is necessary to establish stronger international relations. "Cooperation rather than confrontation is a top priority!"

"Finding common ground and making common achievements has always been one of the advantages of German-China economic cooperation." Schumann stressed that Germany and China should make good use of the experience and ability of jointly building bridges between the two countries over the past years, which will still be needed in the future.
